Nando's Fakeaway

Next on Tok to Table, we'll take a look at the viral homemade Nando's recipe that has been trending on TikTok! I couldn't wait to test this, and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. It was a huge hit from start to finish! Whether you're a Nando's fan or simply enjoy recreating restaurant favourites at home, this recipe will satisfy your Nando's flavour fix.

While this blog is all about recreating viral recipes on a student budget, I have to admit this Nando’s recipe was a bit pricier than expected when it came to buying the ingredients. If you already have Nando’s sauces or spices on hand, it definitely helps cut down the cost, but unfortunately, I didn’t have them, so I had to buy everything specifically for this dish. To make matters worse, there weren’t any Clubcard promotions available on the items I needed, which was a bit of a letdown.

All in all, it cost me £18.14

 Method

Start by coating your chicken in Nando’s medium peri-peri sauce. Ideally, you’d let it marinate for a while to really soak up the flavour, but if you're as hungry as I was, a few minutes will do the trick! While the chicken sits, prep a pan with a bit of oil and let it heat up, ready for cooking.

Once your pan is hot, add the chicken and let it cook through. While that’s sizzling away, slice up your halloumi and coat it generously with the same Nando’s peri-peri sauce for extra flavour. Set the halloumi aside for now—we’ll pop it into the air fryer later to get it golden and crispy.

Preheat your oven to 220°C for the chips, or if you prefer, you can cook them in the air fryer to be quicker.

Next, chop your lettuce and place it in a bowl for serving. As for the chips, spread them on a tray and sprinkle with Nando’s peri-peri salt to perfectly replicate those signature peri chips from the restaurant. Don’t skip this step—it’s essential for capturing the true at-home Nando’s vibe!

After seasoning, pop your chips in the oven or air fryer and cook them according to the instructions on the packaging.

Place your halloumi in the air fryer and cook for about 8 minutes, or until it’s golden and crispy to perfection.

Don't forget to check on your chicken! You’re looking for a slight crisp on the outside while keeping it juicy on the inside. Then slice your chicken into long strips, a perfect size for fitting into your wrap!

Now for the fun part—assembling our Nando’s-style wraps! Start by spreading a generous amount of Perinaise onto a wrap, then layer on the lettuce, perfectly cooked chicken, and top it off with the crispy halloumi. Roll it up tightly, and if it’s as packed as mine was, you can use a cocktail stick to hold everything together.

Add your chips to the plate, and for an extra kick, feel free to sprinkle on a bit more peri-peri salt. It’s the perfect finishing touch to complete your homemade Nando’s experience!

Bon appétit! There you have it—a delicious Nando’s fakeaway wrap made right in the comfort of your own kitchen.

As always, there’s a video tutorial at the bottom to guide you through how we recreated the perfect wrap. Make sure to watch till the end for that satisfying shot of the chicken sizzling away!
