Next, I'm going to try an air fryer recipe. Air fryers have
gained popularity, particularly on TikTok, due to their ability to make cooking
faster, healthier, and more convenient. They're ideal for whipping up crispy,
flavourful meals with no oil, making them a go-to for busy people searching for
quick yet filling dishes. Perfect for students!
Method
Firstly, prepare the Babybel Cheese. Start by unwrapping
each Babybel and removing the wax coating. Set the unwrapped cheese aside on a
plate or tray.
Next Crack two eggs
into a medium-sized bowl and whisk them thoroughly with a fork until the yolks
and whites are well combined. This egg mixture will be used to coat the
Babybels, helping the Dorito crumbs stick.
After that, take a large bag of Doritos and place them in a
sturdy plastic sandwich bag. Using a wooden rolling pin, gently crush the
Doritos until they are broken down into fine, crumb-like pieces. You want a
good, even texture to coat the Babybels without any large chunks.
This is where we ran into a bit of trouble, some of our
Dorito pieces were larger than others, which made it difficult to evenly coat
the Babybel cheese.
Now, set up a coating station with a series of plates for
each step of the process. Start with a plate of Babybels, followed by a plate
of flour.
Next, have your bowl of eggs ready, and finally, a plate with the
crushed Doritos. This assembly line will make it easier to coat each cheese
evenly and keep the process organised.
Once each Babybel is coated, set aside on a plate. Line the
bottom of the air fryer with a layer of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Carefully place the Babybels in the air fryer, ensuring they are spaced well
apart from each other. This will allow them to cook evenly and prevent the
cheese from oozing out and merging with the others as they melt.
Set the air fryer to 200°C and cook the cheese bites for 5
minutes or longer until they are golden. Be sure to set a timer! While they’re
frying, take some time to clean up your workspace, as this recipe can leave
quite a bit of mess behind.
Once the cheese bites are perfectly golden and crispy,
carefully remove them from the air fryer and transfer them to a plate.
And just like that, you’ve got delicious air fryer Babybel
cheese bites, crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside!
I’d personally rate these a solid 8/10. The cheese pull was
on point, which left me feeling pretty satisfied. They’re a great snack, but I
will admit, the effort required felt a bit much for the final result. Next time
I’m craving cheese bites, I might just swing by McDonald’s or check out what I
have in the freezer. That said, I had a lot of fun making them!
On the budget side, these cheese bites only cost £5.54 to
make 12, which isn’t too bad. However, they were devoured within 5 minutes, so
while affordable, they might feel a bit expensive for a student budget given
how quickly they disappear!
That said, the recipe uses basic ingredients that you may
already have in your kitchen, so it could work out cheaper for you than it did
for me.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post. I’ve also
attached a video so you can follow the recipe along with me. If you give the
cheese bites a try, let me know in the comments.
Did your cheese pull
turn out as good as mine?
